Jerry Sanchez

Jerry Sanchez Jr - President

Officer Jerry Sanchez has served in law enforcement since 2014, beginning his career with the Oakland Police Department. During his seven years with Oakland PD, he spent the majority of his time in patrol, responding to a wide range of violent crimes that strengthened his skill set and deepened his dedication to public safety. Throughout his tenure, he investigated numerous types of criminal cases and earned both a Chief’s Commendation and a Captain’s Commendation for exceptional service.

While at Oakland PD, Officer Sanchez served in several specialized roles, including EVOC Instructor, Patrol Rifle Officer, SWAT Team Member, Field Training Officer, Fatal Traffic Investigator, and Motor Officer. These assignments broadened his tactical experience, leadership abilities, and commitment to officer training and development.

In 2021, Officer Sanchez lateraled to the Pittsburg Police Department, where he continues to proudly serve the Pittsburg community. Since joining PPD, he has expanded his responsibilities through community-policing initiatives and service on the Pittsburg SWAT Team, Marine Patrol, Field Training Officer, and the Traffic Unit, where he has investigated fatal traffic collisions. During his time with Pittsburg PD, Officer Sanchez has also earned a Chief’s Commendation for exemplary service.

Officer Sanchez has been elected twice to serve as the President of the Pittsburg Police Officers’ Association and has proudly held the position since 2023. He is honored to represent the dedicated men and women of the department and remains committed to ensuring that their benefits, working conditions, and compensation reflect the professionalism and hard work they demonstrate every day in service to the people of Pittsburg.

Jonathan Elmore

Jonathan Elmore - Vice President

Detective Elmore currently serves as a Homicide Detective in the Investigations Division of the Pittsburg Police Department. Since joining the department in 2013, he has served in a variety of roles, including Patrol Officer, School Resource Officer, Robbery/Persons Crimes Detective, Corporal, Field Training Officer, and SWAT Team Operator. Detective Elmore also serves on the Department's Peer Support Team, Training Cadre, and several other ancillary duties.

Over the course of his career, he has completed extensive advanced training in homicide investigations, drug influence recognition, officer-involved incident investigations, arrest and control instruction, and more. He is a multi-time expert witness in Contra Costa County and Alameda County Superior Courts and has received numerous PPD commendations, including Pittsburg Police Department Officer of the Year (2021), multiple Meritorious Conduct Awards, and a Lifesaving Award.

As Vice President of the Pittsburg Police Officers Association, Detective Elmore is dedicated to representing the interests of Pittsburg’s officers, supporting their professional growth and wellness, and strengthening the relationship between the police department and the community it serves.

Jessie Naval - Treasurer

I am honored to serve as Treasurer for the Pittsburg Police Officers Association. As a patrol officer with our department, I am committed to supporting both our members and the community we serve. In addition to working patrol, I am a member of the Peer Support Team and the Crisis Negotiations Team (CNT), where I focus on officer wellness, critical incident response, and effective communication during high-stress situations.

As Treasurer, I am dedicated to maintaining transparency, fiscal responsibility, and strong stewardship of our association’s resources. My goal is to ensure our POA remains financially sound while continuing to advocate for our members and their families.

I am proud to serve alongside the men and women of this department and to contribute to the strength and integrity of our association.

Sandra Salazar

Sandra Salazar - Secretary

Officer Sandra Salazar currently serves as a Patrol Officer with the department. Since joining in 2022, she has worked both as a School Resource Officer and a Patrol Officer. She also serves on the department’s Peer Support Team and Social Media Team, and contributes to several other ancillary duties.

In her role as Secretary of the Pittsburg Police Officers Association, Officer Salazar is dedicated to advocating for the interests of Pittsburg’s officers, supporting their overall wellness, and strengthening the relationship between the police department and the community it serves.

William Berger

William Berger - Board Member

Officer William Berger began his law enforcement career in 2014 with the Oakland Police Department. Currently serving with the Pittsburg Police Department as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, K-9 Handler, and SWAT team member, he understands the operational and safety needs of line-level officers.

Officer Berger has worked in patrol, violent crime/gang enforcement, and tactical assignments. He is the recipient of a numerous awards including a Medal of Merit, several Chief’s Commendations, Firearms and Stolen Vehicle Recovery awards and more. Having worked for the Oakland Police Department and the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office prior to arriving at Pittsburg Police Department, his experience across agencies provides a broad perspective on officer representation and organizational leadership.

As a Board Member, he is committed to strong and transparent representation, protecting wages and working conditions, advancing training and equipment standards, and promoting unity within the ranks.

Officer Berger is dedicated to strengthening the Association’s voice and ensuring every officer has the support necessary to serve safely and effectively.

Hector Flores - Board Member

Officer Flores has served with the Pittsburg Police Department for seven years. Officer Flores is currently assigned to the patrol division and serves the department as a Field Training Officer. Officer Flores is dedicated to serving the members of this association, department, and the citizens of Pittsburg.
